Deep Blue Forum 2022

Team Victoria-Class is delighted to be participating in the 3rd annual Deep Blue Forum, taking place November 1st-2nd, in Ottawa, ON.

For over 14 years, Team Victoria-Class, a team comprised of Babcock Canada, Seaspan Victoria Shipyards, and BMT, has been a long-standing partner to Canada in delivering submarine maintenance and sustainment support under the Victoria In-Service Support Contract. Through the hard work and dedication of this team, we have helped Canada to grow and strengthen its strategic submarine sustainment capabilities.

As a long-standing, trusted partner, in the Victoria-Class Submarine Sustainment Enterprise, we are proud to support the coming together of industry to better understand the evolving needs of the Royal Canadian Navy.

Hosted by Vanguard Canada, the Deep Blue Forum provides an opportunity to learn more about emerging technologies and capabilities in the underwater domain and to hear from industry and military experts from around the world.

Announcing Jake Jacobson as the Deep Blue Forum 2022 Master of Ceremonies.

We are delighted to announce that Jake Jacobson, Director – Babcock Canada, will be the Master of Ceremonies at this year’s Deep Blue Forum.

Over the course of the forum, Jake will be driving conversations speaking to underwater defence and security operations with various experts throughout the event. For the full list of Deep Blue Forum 2022 speakers, click here.

Jake has an extensive background with the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), serving in many roles including: Combat Systems Engineer at sea and on the waterfront, Project Engineer specializing in Above Water Warfare, Head of Underwater Warfare, and Project Manager for the modernization of Canada’s air defence and command & control destroyers. He also served as naval representative to the United Kingdom and Ireland, and as the Commanding Officer of Canada’s Pacific Naval Dockyard.

Following his retirement from the CAF in 1999, Jake worked with several organizations within the defence industry, before joining Babcock in 2014. Jake wore many hats within Babcock Canada expanding his roles and responsibilities across Government Relations, Strategy & Business Development, Marketing & Communications, and Industrial Benefits for the Marine, Land, Aviation, and Nuclear Sectors. He retired from his executive role in 2020 and remains Director, Babcock Canada.

Introducing Tony March, as a speaker at the 2022 Deep Blue Forum

We are delighted to announce that Babcock’s Vice President – Engineering Services, Tony March, will be returning to the Deep Blue Forum, as a speaker.

Tony is a submariner with 21 years of experience with the Canadian Armed Forces. During his career as a Marine Systems Engineer, Tony served in a wide variety of sea-going and shore-based submarine in-service support positions on both coasts and in Ottawa.

Tony joined the Babcock team in 2018 and began his current role as Vice President – Engineering Services in 2020.

Tony’s presentation will explore Modularity: Opportunities for Design, Manufacture and Support.

Modular build has been broadly adopted in global submarine manufacturing, providing greater flexibility in manufacturing and maximizing the use of unique infrastructure and resources. Using an engineering process framework, modular approaches to submarine design, build, integration, and support will be further explored, showing where opportunities exist from early-stage design through to manufacturing and into in-service support.

Tony will be speaking at 14:00.

BMT’s President, Darcy Byrtus, is this year’s Opening Keynote Speaker, and will be speaking from 8:30-9:00 about the complexities of submarine project delivery.

Babcock’s Vice-President-Engineering Services, Tony March, will be a featured speaker, speaking to Modularity: Opportunities for Design, Manufacture and Support, from 14:00-14:25.

Seaspan Victoria Shipyards’ Vice-President, Project Delivery, Chris Earl, will be moderating a panel titled: Learning From Experience – Submarine Replacement, from 15:20-16:20.
