Rising Economy Week 2021

Babcock is excited to announce that Jack MacDonald, Head of Innovation, Technology and Socio-Economic Benefits, will be speaking at this year’s Rising Economy Week 2021, a conference produced by South Island Prosperity Partnership (SIPP).  Jack will be speaking on a panel on November 23rd, at 9am to 10am PST, that will discuss the rising tide of innovation in our pacific ocean economy.

Rising Economy Week 2021 is a high-impact conference designed to build momentum, explore bold ideas and tackle big challenges facing Greater Victoria and Southern Vancouver Island in the 21st century.  The event will be hosted from November 22nd – November 25th.

Babcock is a proud member of SIPP, an alliance of over 70 public and private-sector partners in Greater Victoria, including 11 local governments, nine First Nations, three post-secondary institutions, nine industry associations and nonprofits, and more than 30 major employers. SIPP works to bolster Vancouver Island’s economic and social prosperity.

About Jack

Jack MacDonald holds a Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Engineering (Chemical and Materials) from the Royal Military College of Canada and a diploma in Project Management from the University of British Columbia. He has held the Project Management Professional designation since 2019.  

Jack served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 25 years, serving in eight different warships located in both Victoria and Halifax, as well as postings to Kingston and Ottawa. Career highlights include being the Marine Systems Engineering Officer in HMCS Montreal and strategic staff roles within the Chief of Force Development and Naval Staff Headquarters, before transitioning to a Public Service position with the Material Group at National Defence Headquarters.

In 2017, Jack assumed the position of Deputy Project Manager (Ship) for the Canadian Surface Combatant project, where he led the development of the technical requirements and subsequently the evaluation and selection of the design team for Canada’s largest defence procurement.  

Jack first joined Babcock in March 2020 as Head of Innovation and Technology and assumed his additional role in the spring of 2021.
