Indigenous Veterans Day

November 8

November 8 is Indigenous Veterans Day, a day to honour and remember all Indigenous Veterans who have served and continue to serve our country.

First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people in Canada, have a long and proud tradition of military service to our country. It is estimated that over 12,000 Indigenous Peoples have served in World War I, World War II, and the Korean War.

On Indigenous Veterans Day, and everyday, we recognize the courage and sacrifice of all Indigenous Veterans and thank them for their service and contributions to protect our country.

There are several monuments and/or ceremonies throughout Canada that honour and recognize Indigenous Veterans’ contributions and service:

If you are near one of these monuments and/or ceremonies, we encourage you to visit to pause and reflect on the service and sacrifice Indigenous Veterans have made for our country.
