Babcock Canada and International Submarine Engineering Ltd. Partner to Expand Subsea Charging and Data Transfer Solution.

Developed by International Submarine Engineering Ltd. (ISE), the subsea charging and data transfer solution was designed for integration onto ships. Alongside Babcock, it is now being adapted as an innovative, easily integrated, autonomous underwater docking solution for submarines, including potentially the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP).  This solution targets the CPSP’s high-level mandatory requirements, aiming to enhance the submarines’ intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities. It allows for seamless data transfer and charging of autonomous systems while the submarine remains fully submerged, even in extreme conditions such as under ice, without compromising its stealth.

This solution’s key advantage lies in its alignment to existing ‘military off-the-shelf’ designs with limited integration challenges and the ability to support autonomous underwater vehicles while maintaining the submarines’ covert operations, ensuring no detection or operational compromise occurs.

Babcock and ISE prove to be a strong team to further develop and expand the subsea probe-and-drogue’s data transfer and charging capabilities, resulting in extended operational reach and effectiveness in challenging environments.

“The relationship between Babcock and ISE has been key to unlocking the subsea probe-and-drogue’s full potential – impacting real-world results where they matter most.” – Michael Versteeg, Mechanical Department Manager

This partnership is an indirect investment under the Industrial and Technological Benefits (ITB) Policy, which is part of Babcock’s commitment to meeting its ITB obligations to Canada

International Submarine Engineering Ltd. (ISE) is a market leader in the areas of underwater vehicles and industrial robotics. Since 1974, ISE has delivered more than 210 underwater vehicles and 400 robotic manipulators to customers around the world.
