On June 2, Babcock Canada was recognized as the Co-op Employer of the Year for Camosun College in Victoria, BC. Since 2008, Babcock Canada has had more than fifty students participate in co-op placements with close to twenty joining Babcock in permanent or contract positions from institutions across Canada. Of these, eight have been directly from the Camosun Co-op program. The college recognized the quality of placement received by co-op students within the mechanical and electrical engineering programs and highlighted the real world engineering challenges students receive during their placements.

Mark Dixon, President of Babcock Canada, stated: “Our team is committed to building local talent through partnering with educational institutions and developing the next generation of specialists”. By 2022, the province of British Columbia is forecasting a million job openings and has called on industry to focus on partnerships and developing youth to assist in meeting these needs. Partnerships with post-secondary institutes is one way Babcock Canada is meeting these needs while developing local skills to support the west coast marine industry.
